Indian academia is gearing up to build 75 satellites that are expected to be launched by ISRO rockets between August 15, 2022, and 2023. Efforts in this regard are being carried out to commemorate the 75th year of Indian independence.
Students and faculty of the VJIT and Anurag University, Hyderabad, have embarked on a journey to launch a satellite named ANURAGsat this year.
Over 200 students will develop, build, integrate, test, launch and monitor the satellite using hands-on experience under the supervision of faculty and global space tech organizations. The satellite will be put into Earth’s orbit with help of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
For designing and developing the satellite, the Anurag University on 2nd February 2022 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Technology Congress Association which will extend its expertise to students and faculty of the VJIT and Anurag university.
Satellite will be launched as part of the ‘75 Students’ Satellites Mission 2022’, an initiative of the union government celebrating 75 years of Independence. The Mission 2022 is aimed at launching 75 student-built satellites into orbit, with the larger emphasis on academia laying a foundation to science-based education and experience based learning.
Through the launch of the satellite, the VJIT and Anurag University intends to train its student community on space technology. The proposed satellite will be designed and developed in a dedicated lab set up on the VJIT and Anurag university campus.
The idea of launching the satellite is to give exposure to students on space technology and accordingly train them. A total of 200 students and 30 faculty members from different departments are involved in developing and launching the satellite. Faculty members are getting their certification in space technology and they will be guiding the students. An ISRO vehicle will carry this satellite and launch is tentatively scheduled in the month of August this year.
In regards with conceptualizing, design, development and launch and tracking of ANURAGsat, examination has been conducted for selection of students for Satellite Project on 14th March 2022.The required material to prepare for the examination has already been provided to students.
From the Department of CSE and CSE (DS) around 60 students have been registered and given the examination. 5 students from CSE department 1 student from CSE (DS) are qualified and are selected to work on the on Board Computer (OBC) Subsystem of the ANURAGsat.
In this regards the students of CSE Department working on OBC along with the students working on different subsystems of the satellite from VJIT (59 students) and Anurag Univeristy are taken for the Industrial visit to NRSC Outreach at Jeedimetla Campus in Hyderabad on 29th April 2022.
During this visit:
· The students are given lectures & shown space programme related videos
· They also visited the exhibition arranged in the facility.
The students have gained the knowledge on:
· Remote sensing
· Various Centre’s of ISRO in India and its importance
· The satellites launched by ISRO
· Space-based applications
