A one week Faculty Development Programme on “Need for concept oriented Physics teaching in Engineering Colleges” was organized by the Faculty of Physics, Department of Humanities and Sciences, Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology from 12th to 17th August, 2013.

The workshop started on 12th morning with Inaugural ceremony. Prof. K. Rama Reddy, Chairman, Prof. Rama Reddy College of Engineering and Technology, was the chief guest of Inaugural Ceremony. Prof. P. Venugopal Reddy, Director, VJIT explained the theme of the Faculty Development programme.  Dr. P. Rajeshwer Reddy, Correspondent, VJIT and Dr. A. Padmaja, Principal, VJIT, spoke about the role of Physics in creating strong base of Engineering at the Inaugural ceremony. Dr. Depankar Sengupta, Assoc. Prof., H&S welcomed one and all to the Faculty Development Programme and Mr. E. M. Raju, Assoc. Prof., H&S proposed the vote of thanks.

On 12th August, 2013 in the morning session Prof. K. Rama Reddy delivered a lecture on “Secret of Success” with his experience.  His lecture motivated the participants to excel in the teaching field and to involve in research.

In the afternoon session Dr. Suryanarayana, IIT, Hyderabad delivered a lecture on “Magnetism and Magnetic Materials”. In this topic, he explained about the different types of magnetic materials and how research work can be done further on magnetic materials.

On 13th August, 2013, Dr. Dipankar  Sengupta, VJIT, delivered a lecture on “Applications of Fiber Bragg grating sensor” in the morning session. In the Afternoon session Prof. P. Venugopal Reddy, Director, VJIT, delivered a lecture on “Novel Superconductors and Topological Insulators”. He explained the concepts of Superconductors, types of superconductors and its applications.

On 14th August, 2013, Dr. P. Madhusudana  Rao,  BOS, JNTUH, delivered a lecture on “Crystallography”. He explained about the importance of crystalline materials. Dr. Meenakshi Viswanathan, BITS, Hyderabad, delivered a lecture on “We are teaching are they learning?” In the afternoon session, she explained about the level of teaching in the classroom by giving suitable illustrations.

On 16th August, 2013, Dr. P. Kistaiah, Professor, OU, delivered a lecture on Semiconductor Physics.  He explained the latest trends in semiconductor research. In the afternoon session Dr. M. Sai Shankar, NIT, Warangal, delivered a lecture on “LASER an Amazing Tool”.

On 17th August, 2013, Professor P. Yadagiri Reddy, OU, delivered a lecture on “Basic Quantum Mechanics” and Prof. M. Mutha Reddy, Former Registrar, OU, delivered a lecture on “Statistical Mechanics”. He explained about the basic concepts of Statistical Mechanics.
