A Seminar on “Antenna Arrays and Smart Antennas” organized by IETE Student forum, VJIT, Hyderabad was held at ECE Department on 09th February, 2023. In this seminar the total 171 students from III, IV Year and 25 Faculty Members have participated.
The Director Dr. E. Saibaba Reddy, Principal Dr. A. Padmaja and Resource person Dr.P.V.D. Somasekhar Rao, (Retd.) Professor & Director at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, Dr S.Thulasi Prasad, Professor & HOD, Dept. of ECE, VJIT have graced the occasion. The session has started with a welcome address of the resource person.
The seminar started with the fundamentals of antenna. It covered definition, fundamental parameters of antenna, classification of antennas based on their radiation pattern such as omnidirectional antenna, isotropic antenna and directional antenna. The gain and directivity of the antenna and the factors that affect them were discussed in detail.
A deep insight into antenna arrays and their significance in the present day scenario was given. Effect of factors such as configuration of antenna array, inter-element spacing, and amplitudes of the input signals applied to individual elements explained.
Creation of smart antennas as a combination of an antenna array and signal processing unit was discussed very interestingly with real time examples and applications. Audience was enthralled listening to the lifetime experience of Dr. Somashekhar Rao Garu in the antenna domain presented in the most lucid and simplest form.
