A Talk on Out Come Based Education by Prof Krishna Vedula, Executive Director, IUCEE (Indo US Collaboration for Engineering Education)

Prof Krishna Vedula, Executive Director, IUCEE visited the college on Jan 2, 2014.  He addressed the Heads of the Departments and briefed them regarding the IUCEE activities and the details of creating an account in “lensoo.org” to browse the interested webinars to make use of. Later on he addressed the staff for an hour that is from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on the outcome based education. He introduced the ABET Engineering criteria for Accreditation Process and how a teacher has to map the Course Objectives with that of the Program Educational Objectives.  He discussed the Blooms Taxonomy to identify the Learning Outcomes.  He used one of the Active Learning Techniques, “Think-Pair – Share” and made the staff to be aware of the knowledge dimension. The staff identified the four knowledge dimensions such as Factual, Conceptual Procedural and Meta-Cognitive forms as a grid with twenty four separate cells as represented.  He advised to write the Learning Objectives for each topic that the curriculum prescribed. He has also introduced Elements of the Engineering Criteria for ABET and demonstrated that a program criteria from 3a-3k. He has also introduced the Elements of a Course Design to achieve Program Educational Objectives.

The Session was well received by the staff.
