Faculty Orientation Programme

A three day orientation programme was organized at VJIT between 24th and 26thJune 2013 for the faculty. The programme began with the lighting of lamp followed by welcome address by Dr. A. Padmaja, Principal, VJIT and a message by Dr. P. Venugopal Reddy, Director, VJIT.

Sri A.K. Menon, MD, Options Executive Search PVT Ltd inaugurated the first day morning session by speaking on “Engineering Education – In need of a Renaissance“. He took us to a different world of engineering education – a new birth, a change at its best. He gave us the statistical data from 1996 to till date about the industry and its employability standards.

The second session was by Sri Achyth Rao, President Bala Hakkula Sangham, A.P He spoke on the ground realities of children, girl child, child labour and the role of a citizen to eradicate such social menace.

In the third session Sri Venkata Ramana, Founder and Director of HIMS spoke on how to manage time. He gave simple tips on doing things in a disciplined fashion and not allowing postponement in our day to day activities. The day one ended with a good response from the audience with a healthy interaction.

Second day sessions began with Sri Tirumal Reddy, Learning and Development Professional, with a speech on imparting key soft skills and behavioral competencies. He stressed on the need for continuous professional development and its significance for individual progress.

This was followed by Sri Akella Raghavendra Rao, a trainer for IAS aspirants, author and freelance journalist. He spoke on the fine principles leading to Joy of Teaching include smile, body language, subject, dress code and eye contact. It was a very emphatic and powerful speech highlighting the need for a healthy relationship between a teacher and a student.

In the afternoon, Sri Bala Kishore, Senior Vice President, United Online Software Development India Pvt Ltd., gave a presentation on how to bridge the gap between the industry and academics. He explained the need for a holistic approach with equal emphasis on conceptual understanding of technical as well as communication skills for better employability. The session ended with a few interesting questions and answers.

Third day of the orientation started with Role of Human Values in Education by Prof. Pradeep Department of Civil Engineering, IIIT, Hyderabad. He mentioned that apart from academic curriculum there is a need to prepare students to face life, the essence of deriving happiness, to promote harmony among individual and the hazards of having only information without knowledge.

Finally, the three day orientation programme was concluded by a yoga demonstration by Dr. P. Venugopal Reddy, Director VJIT.
