Inauguration of NI LabVIEW Academy – Centre of Excellence & ARM University Program – Embedded Systems Lab
Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (An Autonomous Institution), Hyderabad, is proud to announce the inauguration of two research labs in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Renowned academician, Dr. K. Lal Kishore, Former Vice Chancellor (JNTUA), Former Registrar (JNTUH) and author of many Electronics and Communication Engineering books, has inaugurated the labs. Director of VJIT Dr. P. Venugopal Reddy, Principal Dr. A. Padmaja, HOD of ECE DR. Harikrishna Kamatham were present for the grand inauguration.
About NI LabVIEW Academy – Centre of Excellence:
National Instruments LabVIEW Academy bundle is a software and hardware bundle, which is widely used in industry in the sector of Electronics and Communications. ISRO, BHEL, Infosys etc., are few in the huge list of NI users. Getting the students trained in these industrial hardware and software will help the students achieve greater heights in their career by becoming industry ready. The gap between the Institute and the Industry will be minimised. In this six module training program, students will be exposed to latest hardware and software used in the industry. They will be doing their project works as part of the training in various fields of Communications, Embedded Systems, VLSI, Instrumentation, Image Processing, Robotics, etc. They will also have to appear for CLAD (Certified LabVIEW Academy Developer) Examination in their fourth module, which is an industry recognised certification given by National Instruments. The database of the CLAD certified students will be shared among the industries using NI equipment, which indirectly will attract internships for the students.
About ARM University Program – Embedded Systems Lab:
Department of ECE, VJIT, is now recognized under ARM University Program, which along with Cypress Semiconductors has established Embedded Systems Lab in the campus. In this research lab, students will be trained in the ARM processor boards and PSoC boards. ARM processor core is widely used in most of the electronic gadgets. Most of the smart phones have ARM cores in their processors. Programmable System on Chip (PSoC) is another new chip developed by Cypress Semiconductors, which gives the flexibility to a developer to design and program his own system on a single chip. The training programs in this research labs equip the students to program these chips and learn how to develop software over the firmware. The students trained in this program will get certification from ARM University Program, Cambridge, UK, which also has universal recognition in the industry. Students will also be doing projects by implementing their own ideas, as part of the training.
Gist of Chief Guest speech:
Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the above two research labs, the chief guest Dr. K. Lal Kishore, stressed on the importance of labs in Engineering Education. He also shared his views on how the students should spend more time in Laboratories and equip themselves with hands-on experience. He congratulated the Department of ECE for taking the initiative of establishing research labs for the benefit of the students. He suggested to take this initiative to the level of incubation centres, which will give a bigger platform for the engineering students and faculty in their careers.
