The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swecha, a part of the Free Software Movement of India, on 16th August 2024.
The MoU was signed in the presence of:
- Dr. L. Pratap Reddy, President of Swecha
- Dr. Sai Baba Reddy, Head of the Institution & Principal
- Dr. Aruna Kumari, Head of the Department (CSE)

Established in 2005, Swecha is a vibrant community of software users, students, academicians, and developers committed to delivering quality software aligned with the free software development model.
Swecha’s key initiative includes developing a localized version of GNU/Linux in Telugu, aiming to bridge the digital divide and promote digital inclusivity. By providing accessible solutions, Swecha envisions transforming the digital divide into digital unity, benefiting communities across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
This collaboration marks a significant step in empowering students with open-source technologies and encouraging participation in the free software movement.
