NSS Coordinator’s Report on the Special Camp 6.3.2012 – 12. 3. 2012

It is my pleasure to present this report on the 7 day NSS Special Camp held at Anthappaguda, Shankarpalli Mandal, Ranga Reddy District. 35 boys and 15 girls participated in the camp. The volunteers were stationed in the village at Anthappaguda SAIL premises. The camp had inaugural function on 6th march at the Gram Panchayat building, Anthappaguda. The secretary, the principal,  C.A.O and A.O of VJIT grace the event. The Sarpanch , Ward members, and the Head Master at the school were the guests of honour. Mr. E.M. Raju, NSS Programme Coordinator, VJIT,  briefed the gathering about various activities proposed to be done on all the 7 days. The village elders welcomed the students and thanked the VJIT management for choosing Anthappaguda for the NSS camp.

On the 6th March, volunteers repaired the road which is very dangerous to walkers, vehicles, and animals.  The road is approximately 1 km of  On the 7th March volunteers actively participated in tree plantation along the road side in the in the morning. Mr. G Yella Reddy, Director of mathematics school and Mr. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy,  DEE, of GHMC addressed the students into different sessions on the meets of rural populations and motivated the students to be seniors and honest in whatever little they do to the village. Mr. V. Purushottam Reddy, Chairman for Society for Advanced Information in Learning explained about the Community and Social Service to the NSS volunteers.  He also explained the need of students involment in  social service.

On the 8thDr. V. Sandeep Reddy of Sugar Care hospitals hyd. Visited the camp and conducted sugar test on about hundred villagers above 40 years of age. Surprisingly only 4 senior citizens were tested positive. they were given counseling and medication. The doctor also addressed all the village and camp participants about precautions and preventive measures to be taken to avoid sugar. The students also took up cleaning work at the temple  and school premises . The students and the villagers played Holi in the morning.

On the 9th  and 10th March the students whitewashed the temple structure. A few students imparted computer classes for the 6thand 7th class village students. The four computers that the school has have come in handy for the training. A quiz programme was also conducted for the students. Mr. E. M. Raju the coordinator organized the yoga class for the camp participants. Later in the evening from 7 to 9 pm the camp students organized a cultural program was conducted in the school premises . Some skits were demonstrated and enacted on various awareness programs like HIV, Drinking, Smoking, Mosquito menace.  The press representatives of Eenadu, Sakhsi, Andhra Jyothi, Andhrabhomi, Namaste Telangana, Vartha, Surya and other papers visited the camp site and supervised and reported the activities on the day.

On the 11th March the boys participated in the village road cleaning and garbage lifting.  The girls holding placards went door to door and campaigned on women issues. They also focused on literacy , adult education and the problem of dropout children. They emphasized the need to send their children to schools. Later in the evening Prof. Amarender reddy, Associate Dean, Collage of Horticulture interacted with the participants on rain water harvesting , Alternate horticulture crops to the routine agriculture crops. He emphasized the need for the use of less water and more yield. The participants had a camp fire  at night and enjoyed merrily . The students and villagers also watched a short film about Pollution and child labor prepared by NSS volunteers after dinner.

On the 12th March, the students cleaning up of the camp place and a team of students collected and cleared the stones at the camp site. In the afternoon, the camp wound up and celebrated valedictory function. The secretary and the principal of VJIT were present. The village elders profusely thanked the management of VJIT and students in particular for doing a commendable job in different areas. Mr. E.M. Raju thanked the press representatives for giving a wide press coverage. He also expressed gratitude for society for advanced information and learning for providing all infrastructural facilities to make the stay of the participants comfortable. The villagers expressed their satisfaction and appreciation for the whole team the camp concluded on a satisfactory note. The principal declared the camp closed.
