There was a  break for High Tea after this.

Soon after the break  the first Lecture Session started at 11.45 am. The first speaker was  Dr. P.Venugopal Reddy, Principal,  Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology. His topic was “Preparations and Applications of Nano Materials”. His topic concerns different approach of preparation of Nano Materials like Top Down and Bottom Up approach. The usage of nano materials in daily life was also explained in his lecture.

Lunch break followed at 1.00pm

After the lunch break the next lecture followed. The next session started at 1.30pm and the speaker was Dr. Dr. V. Seshu Bai, Professor, Department of Physics, Hyderabad Central University, who talked about Superconductivity, and the topics included Zero Resistivity,  live demonstration Meissner Effect, Josephson Effect and Applications of Superconductor. Apart from this exposure and scope of future research in Superconductivity was also discussed in this session.

After this next speaker Dr. Pola Madhusudana Rao, Professor & HOD, Physics Dept,  JNTU College of Engineering, Kukatpally, Hyderabad, delivered a talk on Dielectrics. The basic concepts of dielectrics like different types of Polarization, Calculations of Local Field were discussed. In his lecture he encouraged and motivated all the physics teachers to start  research activities in their respective colleges.

Thus ended day 1

Day 2

Day 2 began on a relaxed note.  Dr. Ravindharan Ethiraj, Professor, Methodist College of Engineering & Technology started the day with his lecture on Fiber Optics.  His experience of over 45 years in teaching  was very much evident in the comfortable way with which he dealt with the subject. He explained the propagation of light in Optical Fibers using  Maxwell’s Equations.  It was very interesting. His lecture was followed by tea break. The second lecture of the day started at 12.30pm. The speaker was Dr. Saket Asthana, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, IIT, Hyderabad and the topic was Magnetism. His lecture was completely research oriented. He discussed different types of Magnetic Materials and their characteristic properties. He made us aware of the present facilities available in his lab for the characterization of materials.

The next lecture followed after the lunch break. The third lecture of the day started at        1.30pm and the next speaker was Dr.M.Lakshmipati Rao, Professor, Methodist College of Engineering & Technology. His topic was Crystallography. He discussed different types of Crystal Structure and Lattice, Lattice Points, Symmetry and Techniques to find the structure of materials. At the end of his lecture he insisted that  for better understanding of physics the usage of Models and demonstration of experiments in class is very essential.

The highlight of the Program was that the speakers were very enthusiastic about their subject and their teaching despite being in teaching for many decades.

The Valedictory Function had Prof. K. Kistaiah, Head of the Physics Department , Osmania University. He talked about the importance of this FDP and the importance of refreshing our learning from  time to time in order to remain effective.
